Outstanding toll from highway 407 and registration renewal
Do you have an outstanding toll from highway 407? Watch out, next time you go to renew your registration sticker you might be surprised. An Ontario court has ruled that car owners who don't pay their outstanding tolls on Highway 407 should not be allowed licence plate renewals. This comes after registrar failed to begin denying license plate renewals for driver's with outstanding bills.
Company spokesman Dale Albers says this would include everyone who's bill goes unpaid for more than three months. But don't worry, you will received your warning in the mail. Currently there is more than 4,300 outstanding tolls which add to about $8 million.
Transportation Minister Harinder Takhar is disappointed with the ruling and is looking at trying to appeal or stay the decision.
407 ETR is world's first all-electronic open access toll highway and one of worlds most expensive highways running 108-kilometre route north of Toronto. This comes after frequent complaints from motorists who complain they're not being charge fairly.
